Our Story
One of our international customers was BES Rehab now BES Healthcare and as a result of this relationship, in March 2008 BES set up a joint venture business in Adelaide and Healthcare Innovations Australia (HIA) was born. In July 2009 HIA took over Shear Comfort and then added the Varilite range of wheelchair seating products and BodiTrak Pressure Mapping systems to their range. We have continued to add assistive technology products to our range, to name a few – TARTA wheelchair back supports, Leggero Strollers, the Breezi Paediatric Seating systems and the JonVac Seating range. In 2013 HIA takes on the Tarta range of wheelchair back supports. These backs represent the pinnacle of design in the world of wheelchair seating. This combined with their customisable and modular design made them ideal for the Australian market. In 2016 HIA introduced the Leggero range of Strollers for children with disabilities. We worked very closely with Leggero and local authorities to get the Strollers tested and approved to Australian requirements. Taking this range on was all part of our efforts to grow our offering for the paediatric market. HIA’s parent company BES Healthcare Ltd in the UK acquired DCS Joncare, the company that developed the Breezi range of highchairs for children with disabilities. In 2018 HIA started work on bringing the Breezi chairs and accessories to Australia. This, alongside Leggero and Tarta, gave customers new options for the support of children with disabilities. Recognising the need to offer better sales support to customers on the eastern seaboard, in March 2019 HIA took on their first field based business development manager, in New South Wales (NSW), who looked after our customers in NSW & Queensland. This along with the existing high level of support we offer our customers in the other States embodies our criterion to provide a service that meets customer expectations. In March 2021 HIA acquired Box’n’Dice a mail order business which supports residential homes and private individuals with Activities especially suitable for the older individual, or people with impaired mental abilities, such as senile dementia.

We started off as Lanapelle Australia in September 1999 and were responsible for the creation, production and manufacture of the very popular Shear Comfort (Australian Medical Sheepskin) range of products. As a result of the Shear Comfort Range, we started working with the distributors of healthcare products both here in Australia and internationally.
